Giving Back at the Holidays

Todays question for the MomDot blog party is Today, make a blog post about what you do to give back during the holidays. Do you volunteer your time? If so, please tell us where. What do you do to teach your children the true meaning of the holidays?

Volunteering has always been important to me! As a matter of fact, my youngest, Matt and I were just at a local assisted living facility singing Christmas carols with our church last night. I love seniors and we had a great time. In addition, we visit other nursing homes during the holiday season and take sugar free candy and Christmas cards to those that don't get many visitors. We also, since our boys were toddlers, have let them pick a name from the Christmas Angel tree that is their age and has similar interests. Then they go shopping for a needy child. This has instilled in them an appreciation for volunteering as well as helps keep them grounded about how blessed they are!
Our church does a lot as well, especially now that the boys are in youth group. It is exciting to see them doing volunteer projects that I did not create or take them to. It is also bittersweet because they often do it without me :-( I know I just contradicted myself but it is hard to watch them grow up- soooooooooo fast!!

What a wonderful idea and such a great opportunity for your son as well. We just selected our Angel from the three this morning...it's such a blessing to give back and share.

Congratulations on raising children who take time to care for others. In today's society that is a real feat!
